We are back with Week #3 of Bear Tracks and we’ll lead off this week with some big news out of the Owen Sound Attack office.
Attack begin search for 3 new coaching staff
First off, we woke up to the significant announcement that the Attack are searching for 3 new faces behind the bench for the 2024/25 season. There’s a story here from Greg Cowan at the Owen Sound Sun Times with some quotes from Dale DeGray about what he’d like to see for the Attack next season. Agree or disagree, people seemed to be asking for changes after our Round 1 playoff exit and here we are. Stay tuned as the coaching search gets underway. You can read the team press release on this here too.
Attack and City of Owen Sound work out 10 year lease for the Bayshore
While this morning’s announcement may have brought some uncertainty, the announcement earlier in the week that the Attack and the City of Owen Sound had reached a new 10 year lease agreement means the Bayshore remains the home of the Bears. The press release on this has quotes from both Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy and Attack Ownership Group President Bob Severs that sound very positive and exciting for Attack fans and future Attack players. Greg Cowan has a story on this as well which you can read here.
Carter George picks up second shutout of the IIHF U18 World Championships and earns second player of the game honours in quarterfinal win over Latvia
And moving on to actual hockey being played… Attack goalie and Thunder Bay native Carter George continues to impress at the IIHF U18 World Championships. George has now earned two shutouts for Team Canada and has picked up player of the game twice, most recently in a 4-0 win over Latvia. Tomorrow Canada faces Sweden at 11 a.m. EST in a tough semi-final test. You can tune into the Gold Medal match on Sunday at 11 a.m. EST or the Bronze Medal match at 7 a.m. EST. Obviously all eyes are on another Team Canada gold medal. There’s a great post-game interview with Carter here on TSN and an interview with teammate Porter Martone about George’s role on this team here.

Thanks to Ryan Girard for continuing to post some amazing photos from on the ground in Finland. The FOMO has changed to thankfulness on my part. That may change again come Sunday.
Deni Goure finishes as runner up for OHL’s overage player of the year
This quietly happened a week or so ago and I was happy to see the Chatham Kent Sports Network pull together this piece on Deni’s season and his runner up status for the OHL’s Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy. The Kitchener Ranger’s Matthew Sop was the winner. This award is voted on by General Manager’s across the league, which means the Bayshore faithful aren’t the only ones who noticed the show Goure put on this season. Here’s hoping we have some more news to report on Deni in the future as we all know he deserves a shot.
Colby Barlow reflects on time with Manitoba Moose
With the Manitoba Moose playoff run coming to an end, Colby Barlow’s time in the AHL for this season has come to a close. The Moose ran some media availability for the players and our friends at Illegal Curve got this great interview with Barlow. Sounds like he’s headed back to Ontario to continue working with Gary Roberts and prep for camp later this summer.
Happy 18th Birthday to Antonio Tersigni
