Woohoo Week #4 and this week is going to be heavy on the Carter George and Team Canada content. It’s unreal to me that Carter is bringing home a second gold medal with Team Canada at such a young age. That gold medal game wasn’t easy and it took a true team effort to best the USA in that one. I think we can all agree though that Carter played a huge role in this team’s success. One comment I’ve always loved from Carter is that he wants to do what he can to give his team the best chance to win. He did that all year for the Owen Sound Attack and he undoubtedly did that in each and every game at the tournament. He picked up three player of the game honours for Team Canada, including in the gold medal game, and even grabbed an assist on the final goal in that game.
I said earlier that it’s unreal, but perhaps that’s the wrong word. Because if we’re being honest I believe in this kid all day long. Is it just me or did you watch this tournament with a different kind of pride because that’s ‘our’ goaltender? It’s not like a sense of ownership over Carter, it’s more of a shared pride, an I-want-to-shout-it-from-the-rooftops kind of feeling, an I-told-you-he-was-that-good sort of vibe? The kind of belief you have in a player after you’ve seen them make 50 save shutouts and keep your team in the game on the toughest of nights. Anyway, I’m sure we all found our own way to support Carter and Canada and to tell anyone who would listen what a great player and a great person he is. I personally watched the third period with a group of lacrosse parents in lawn chairs crowded around my phone that was propped up in the hatchback of a car while our daughters were in tryouts. Here’s hoping CartsGold (who has now fully earned his insta handle) brings his hardware to the Attack BBQ in a few short weeks. Attack Team Awards BBQ set for May 26th
It feels like just the other day the Attack season wrapped up but it’s time to see a few familiar faces from the roster again in just a few weeks. You can pick up your ticket for the annual Attack Team Awards BBQ on May 26th at 1 p.m. at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. You can also catch a baseball game with returning Attack players alongside some of the newly drafted rookies at Duncan McLellan Park before the BBQ. It’s a great chance to meet the new kids, chat with your favourites and set foot in the Bayshore again before training camp.

Theo Peckham starts new hockey-based charity in Owen Sound
Attack and NHL alumni Theo Peckham announced this morning that he’s starting a new hockey-based charity in Owen Sound called Goals and Assists for Kids. Peckham posted the video below this morning explaining his motivation for the new charity that’s committed to helping minorities and underprivileged kids play sports. Peckham now resides in Owen Sound, an area he first discovered while playing for the Attack and also owns and operators PWRFade Golf in the city.
Brightshores Cellybration celebrates hockey in Owen Sound
I was lucky enough to be asked to photograph the first ever Brightshores Cellybration Ball Hockey tournament last Saturday in downtown Owen Sound. This fundraiser for local healthcare was a reminder of how passionate Grey Bruce residents are about hockey. With four custom ball hockey rinks set up right on the main street of the city, the turnout was great and I saw plenty of Junior Attack players in action. There were also teams from as far away as Quebec and Vancouver in the men’s division. Here’s hoping this become an annual event as it had a real Hockey Day in Canada feel to it. Lacrosse season kicks off in the Scenic City
Since we know many of you in Grey Bruce trade your hockey sticks for lacrosse sticks come summer, we’re going to start slipping some lacrosse news into Bear Tracks when it’s relevant. I’m a sponsor for the Owen Sound Northstars Junior B team and my sponsorhip includes being the team photographer for the season. We had a little media night to gather content for the season and I was pretty pumped on the portraits we were able to create. Looking forward to a great season with the Northstars Junior B team. Come on out to their home opener at the Bayshore on May 18th at 4 p.m. vs the St. Catharines Athletics.
Owen Sound Girls Field Lacrosse hosting home tournament June 1 and 2
As a long time girls field lacrosse parent and executive member, I’m inviting you to come out to the Owen Sound Soccer Complex on the weekend of June 1 and 2. The best teams from across the Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse region will be competing in age groups from U9 to U19 and the league’s Junior Elite Women’s League will also play.
