Bear Down 1423. That’s the slogan this year’s Owen Sound Attack roster have hitched their wagon to for the 2026 playoffs. While it’s not their burden to bear (or bare), Attack fans have waited for a long time to see a playoff win from their team and this collection of players and staff have decided it’s their goal to restart that clock and add a playoff win to their record. Will they strive for more than one win? Of course, but this tangible goal is a good place to start. As we’ve seen time and time again this season, this team is capable of a lot when they put their mind to it. They can play some great hockey and it seems the bigger the challenge, the better they play.
1423 days ago on May 3, 2022, I was at the Bayshore when Nick Chenard recorded a playoff shutout win for the Attack over the Flint Firebirds. I had just begun to photograph the Owen Sound Attack near the conclusion of that season. If I wasn’t hooked before those playoff games, I certainly was after. The atmosphere was electric, as it often is at the Bayshore, and the team featured a young Assistant Captain Colby Barlow playing under the guidance of Captain Mark Wooley. Nick Chenard was between the pipes with Corbin Votary as backup. The power trio of Deni Goure, Ethan Burroughs and Cedric Guindon were a key part of the lineup.
Enjoy these photos from the vault. I’m glad to say that not only has my photography improved vastly since 2022 (thankfully) but thanks to the upgraded lighting, new photography holes and improved overall look of the Bayshore, this year’s playoff photos will be far better than this. I’m looking forward to this chapter for the boys, the city and the team.
